The Old Testament in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 22:12–17)

Passage Summary

Christ promises to come soon with a reward for each person, for better or worse, according to his deeds (Rev 22:12). He does so as the One who created and ends all things for the glory of Him and His Father (Rev 22:13; cf. 1:8; 21:6). The reward for those whose robes are washed by the blood of the Lamb and represent their good works—their reward is the blessing of eating from the tree of life and entering the New Jerusalem (Rev 22:14; cf. 3:4; 7:14; 19:8). The reward for others is according to their sins and especially those that characterize them for eternity—these are the gods, sorcerers, immoral, murders, idolaters and liars (Rev 22:15). They are outside the New Jerusalem, never having entered, and are forever punished in the lake of fire (Rev 22:15; cf. 21:8). Christ speaks again to verify His revelation to John to the churches and identifies Himself as the One before and descended from David as well as the bright morning star whose light brings about a new and glorious age (Rev 22:16). In light of this age to come, the Spirit and the Bride who is the church invite all who hear Revelation to come and partake of eternal salvation and be blessed forever with Christ (Rev 22:17).
